Public Service Announcement

Well, in my opinion a Public Service Announcement is a type of advertisement in which tips or common problems are presented and make people get interest in a certain product. They also show the solution of that problem, and that makes the product even more curious. A PSA is different from a commercial in many ways. For example, a commercial creates a problem and then introduce just one product as the solution of the problem, making it appear more important. A PSA focuses in the interest of the population and as I said before, it bases its advertisements basing in common problems in society.

I would like to work with... Rodrigo. I decided to work with him during this project because he's a great friend of mine, he can work easily without struggling and we usually end up with a great idea and therefore an excellent result. Also I would be pleased to work with Taku because he is very creative, we can come up with really nice ideas and he has a great enthusiasm for these kind or projects. Lastly, I would like to work with Jorge because he is very dedicated to school projects, he can get nice ideas based in any topic and he has a great ability with computers and that would help us while we're editing our commercial.

• Help to raise the self-esteem
• Having a healthy life

Probably, I would choose the next three ideas: The use of drugs, Driving under the abuse of alcohol, and Having sex without prevention. For the PSA of The use of drugs I would put a guy who is devastated by the use of these mortal substances and then he enters into a rehabilitation and then comes out clean and ready to start a new and healthy life staying away from drugs.

Super Bowl Commercials

For this time, we had to choose the three Super Bowl Commercials we liked the most and explain why they are so great. So, my three favorite adds were the Brisk Eminem, the Budweiser Wild West, and the Volkswagen commercials. First, I liked a lot the Brisk Eminem commercial because everything is made out of clay, which makes it awesome. Other thing that I liked too was that the stage is moving like if it were a cube and the Eminem made out of clay is constantly moving into every side. Also, Eminem starts saying why he never does commercials, but at the same time he's making one and that's kind of ironic. The second commercial is about the beer Budweiser in the Wild West, the "bad guy" is coming into a bar for a budweiser and everyone in town is scared, but at the same time another man with the beers is coming. The "bad guy" gets into the bar and asks for a budweiser and the bartender says that he doesn't have any left, then the "beer man" arrives and gives the guy a beer. At the end, the "bad guy" starts singing the song "Tiny Dancer" and everyone follows him. The third commercial is from Volkswagen and it consists in a kid who is a fan of Darth Vader and is trying to get the same power as Darth Vader. He tries everywhere but he can't get it right, then his dad arrives and the kid tries to use his "power" in his dad's car. His dad is watching him from the house and turns on the engine to fool the kid and make him feel that he actually has the power.

I think I would change some parts of the Brisk Eminem commercial, it is very good and I liked it a lot so I don't know if I'm able to make it better. To improve the commercial I would make that Eminem raps while he's moving through the stage instead of saying why he doesn't make any commercials. Also, he could rap about the product named Brisk and why he likes it. Another thing he could do is to rap something about his life, for example any experience during his time being a rapper.

The commercial from the classmate I liked the most was the Jorge's add about Coca-Cola. He based his commercial in the training scenes of Rocky Balboa from the movie "Rocky IV". He also included the original song from those scenes which makes his commercial even better. This commercial is very hilarious because watching Jorge training and making that kind of stuff is really funny. It is also funny that he is promoting coke for sport, but fortunately everyone knows that that's not true. All this things he did show why I liked his commercial.

For today's assignment we have to watch a few commercials and write about them. The truth is that I didn't like most of them, many commercials just want to introduce their products into our heads and make us get interested and buy them. The some commercial have very original ideas but as they are being repeated over and over we start to feel annoyed, and I hate that. I think they should get original ideas, and make them even more interesting. One thing that I like about some commercials is the main idea and how they present their products through it, also I like that they talk about the truth about something and how we can get it solved. The commercials that really are in my mind is the one about Anti Smoking and the other is about the beer Carlton Draught. In the Anti Smoking commercial, they show a man asking to a woman if she could take him to a place, the woman ignores him; but when he starts smoking the woman moves backwards and pick him up... Then they put to things, the first one says that women feel safe with men who smoke, then they put other one that says that smoking causes impotency. That changes the whole perception of the message and gives the correct one, if you like women, stop smoking! The second commercial is about the beer Carlton Draught, in the commercial, hundreds of men start singing an epic song and moving making an humongous man drinking a beer. I interpret this as how people can be so addicted to this harmful drink.

Well, for my commercial I will use a product easy to present but at the same time very attractive to the spectators. I think this project will be very, very frustrating because I don't like to do this type of project but I have to do it whether I like it or not. One challenge I think it will be hard to cross is the one to make the audience feel attracted to my product. Other challenge will be to present an original idea, it must be interesting and great. Another one will be to edit the video in a professional way, or at least in an excellent way. I think that if I really focus in this project I would get a good mark. For now, I don't have and idea of what I am going to do the commercial about, but we still have some time to think about it.

During the last classes we were supposed to make a video about any topic that represent us. The video should only have photos of three seconds each and videos no longer than 10 seconds, it must have a duration of 2:30 min. For the theme of my video I focused in the Sun including the beach in some photos. First, I thought to make my video about the Malecon or my life in a day, but I reconsidered all my ideas and I chose the Sun for my theme because it is easy to make many photos about it.

To make my videos I use all the states of the Sun: morning, evening and night. The part that I enjoyed most was the activity of taking photos, I took my cell phone and started to take them placing it in some good spots to get some really good photos and I think I did. I took like 90 photos and put them into the school´s computer. Then, I put a name for every photo, which took me a long time to name all of them. After that, I had to take different pictures from a minimum of 5 classmates, many photos were pretty bad, almost nobody put effort in taking them, so I just chose 5 pictures, the better I could find. As soon as I finished that part, I had to arrange the photos chronologically, following the transition of the Sun. Then, I just added some transition and video effects, and the song: "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra. I had many problems while I was doing my video, for example: the computer I use at school, froze every 10 min. and I had to save it after any change I did to it, them when I wanted to open my video, I spent 5 min. waiting the computer to load the video. I had many problems like these, so those problems made me publish my video 3 days after the due date.

Today, our teacher showed a video about showing one day on Earth with pictures and really short videos. The video was just an trailer about expressing any part of your life in one day. The video shows the good and bad moments the Earth is coming through, the starvation, pollution, wars, but also the happiness of people who live in peace with each other. It makes you think about the problems that we are ignoring and we should do something about it. It is really good because it makes you think about your life and what are you doing with it. It really gives you the idea of showing your life in a 24 hour period, expressing how you identify yourself and things that you like. Our life could be represented in any way, videos, pictures, sound....anything thing we love to do.

The video shows very powerful scenes that are occurring today on the world. For example, the one-leg man that high jumped a height of 1.80 meters. That short video has a great impact because it makes you think, what are you doing with your legs? Just sitting all the time in front of a computer doing nothing productive. In the video, there are many things that really get into your mind. It gives you the idea of changing the world, making it better for all the living things. Actually, we can do that if we put it as a purpose, making that every single person think about what is happening today in the world, encouraging everybody to make everything better.

Fuel Efficiency

During the last days, we have been working with Excel measuring the amount of fuel we waste every day, week, and year. We measured the amount of fuel our cars, dreamed cars, and hybrid cars use. There is a variation in Liters/Km. between the cars, but all waste fuel. We also measured the amount of fuel wasted by alternative means of transportation. If we multiply the amount of cars in Puerto Vallarta and the amount of fuel each wastes, that's a lot of fuel. Hybrid cars are better than normal cars because they can use electric energy as a fuel. They also are made from organic products.
After looking at the huge oil spill, I realized that the use of fuels is very dangerous for the environment. During the worst oil spill 464 sea turtles and 60 dolphins were found dead at the spill area. The owners of the BP are trying to clean this mess up, but it is a huge quantity they spilled up, 190 millions gallons of oil in three months.
I wan to have my own car but I know it will harm the environment. It would be nice to have one but after I remember this events I prefer to wait until I really need it.
